Diving and Snorkelling

Diving and Snorkelling are great activities within the Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve. Note that the waters around Motukaroro / Passage Island have strong tidal currents and back eddies. Experience and local knowledge is recommended for your safety and enjoyment.
A visit to Tutakaka / The Poor Knights is ranked 10 in the AA’s 101 Must Do’s for Kiwis. It is within easy reach of any of the Whangarei Heads accommodation listed.
The world-class diving area just north of the Whangarei Heads, at the Poor Knights Islands was named by Jacques Cousteau as one of the world's top 10 dive locations.
